Spring in Washington D.C. | Travel Photography

This past week we had the opportunity to take a few day trip out to Washington D.C., the timing of the trip lined up almost perfectly with the blooming of the Cherry Blossom trees that line the Tidal Basin by the Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and Constitution Ave.  While the winter storm that had come in the week before took out some of the blossoms, many were still there and came out as the warm weather near the end of our visit brought them back to life.  This was our first trip back to D.C. in almost four years and while the monuments stay the same there were some noticeable changes since we had last visited.  The Washington Monument was no longer behind scaffolding being repaired from an earthquake, and there was the new National Museum of African American History and Culture that had marvelous architecture that we enjoyed photographing, especially at night when the outer facade is backlit from the inside, displaying the ornate patterns in the exterior.  Another thing we got to do this time was walk up to the Capitol on the reflecting pool side which we hadn't done before.  While neither of the nights we were there was calm from a wind perspective, it was neat to view the capitol from that angle.We hope to make more trips back to D.C. in the future, and maybe catch a full on bloom of the Cherry Blossoms next year as the city is really fun to visit.  Picture we took this trip while we were there are below and also added to the Washington D.C. album on our prints website.This work by JD Maloney is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.
