A Historic City

On the last non travel day of our family vacation, we decided to do a little bit of traveling and drive to the historic town of St. Augustine, FL.  It is the oldest town in the United States.  We actually got to stay in the historic town, at the Historic Bayfront Hilton.  We spent the day walking around the city looking at historic sites, taking tours, eating local food, and celebrating Laura's ( my sister's) birthday!!  The weather was really beautiful and the clouds in the sky that you will see in the pictures are 100% real, it was amazing. One of my favorite things to look at were the historic churches that were in St. Augustine.  One of them (Cathedral Basilica) is the oldest Catholic church in the United States.  All of the churches though were very beautiful on both the inside and outside.  Stained glass, wooden rafters, glorious light fixtures, beautiful masonry were highlights of these building and they all look absolutely beautiful. I have found that both cities that we stayed in, in Florida had absolutely amazing ice cream and gelato, which I guess is fortunate for those that live there because it was VERY hot.   We also saw the Atlantic Ocean, so I have seen both the Atlantic and Pacific this summer.  Fortunately for our journey we did not see any tar balls or oil slicks.  I thought it might have been interesting to see at least one, but I will be happy with not being exposed to the toxic substance. Our journey concluded with two days of driving back home with an overnight stop in Kentucky.  We did pull off to a resturant where we got to see USA play England which was exciting as we tied 1-1!!  I am thankful to be home safe as I now begin homework tonight for my class that begins tomorrow, and get ready for a full week of work as well.  I am excited for the rest of this summer, and I will hopefully continue to post stuff weekly.   Below are some photos from mainly the second half of the vacation.  You will also see four posters that I made from some of the sites we saw.
