Visiting Chicago | Travel Photography
This past weekend we got the opportunity to travel up to Chicago for the 4th of July weekend. You may remember us visiting for the 4th of July from our blog post from the Lisle Eyes to the Skies balloon festival. This year we stayed in the downtown area and got a chance to do a bit of exploring in the heart of Chicago. While two days is not nearly enough to see everything there is to see, it was cool to hit some sites we haven't been to. If you dig back in the blog history you'll find photos from the top of the John Handcock building, but we've yet to visit Willis (Sears) Tower and their new Skydeck. This year we got to go up twice, once during the day and once at night. It was from that vantage point we got to view the Navy Pier fireworks. It was a really neat experience, not only was it neat to watch the Navy Pier show looking out the east side of the tower, when we went over to the west side of the tower, you could look out at all the suburbs and neighborhoods having their own fireworks displays. It was incredible watching no less that 30 different sites launching off fireworks all at the same time. Unfortunately due to the high up vantage point and the distance away it's hard to capture all that awesome in a photograph, but we tried. We also tried out a new vantage point for skyline photos of the city. We headed out to the one of the beaches to the north of downtown and found a place on the end of a pier to photograph the city as the sunset on our final night. Not that we won't go back to the Adler Planetarium, but it's great to find more sites. Chicago is a really fun place and we're always looking for new rooftops from which to view the city. This work by JD Maloney is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.
