Ireland with the Nikon D850
Back on September 19th we took delivery of our new Nikon D850 bodies, swapping out the D810 bodies we've been using for the past few years. The camera bodies arrived just in time for our 10 day trip over to Ireland/Northern Ireland that upcoming weekend. We were really excited to be shooting with these new cameras and to use some of the new features the cameras packed as well as check out the image quality off the brand new sensor.Needless to say the cameras excelled in all the things we threw at them during the trip. From a usability perspective they're definitely better than the D810 bodies were (what did we do without a tilt screen?!?). For those who've used the D500 I'm sure the feel is pretty similar from an ergonomics/layout feel. In addition to the screen, the dedicated ISO button is huge as we can now change shutter speed, aperture, and ISO all with one hand...when we remember that we now have that ISO button :)While we weren't exactly over there for action photography, getting the photos of the birds in the fountain/the pond splashing around, the 7 fps was a much noticeable jump allowing us to really nail those moments. The silent shutter with live view made us much less noticeable in the cathedrals, and the DR/image quality is at least the same if not better than the D850's older brother.Below are a few of our favorites from the trip, though there will be dedicated blog posts coming for the trip itself, we've just grabbed some of our favorites off the top, not even sifting through all the ones we took. These photos are up on our prints site as well if you'd like to see them in a bit bigger format. This work by JD Maloney is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.
