Chicago Air & Water Show 2016 | Event Photography
Last weekend we travelled up to Chicago, IL to take in the annual Chicago Air & Water Show. The show features many awesome acts that run pretty much continuously for 5 hours on both Saturday and Sunday. The airshow alternates its headline act every year between the US Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy/Marine's Blue Angels. This year the headliners were the Thunderbirds and man were they fun to watch. Despite some storms in the area on Saturday the show went on albeit with a bit of a late start and the weather was beautiful on Sunday. We were actually really happy with the weather as both days had good clouds, but not a total cloud ceiling which makes for a great background for the images as it's not just a solid blue behind the planes for every photo. Some of the planes and performers that were there were an F/A-18 Hornet, F-35, P-51 Mustang, US Army's Golden Knights Parachute Team, US Navy Parachute Team, C-130 Hercules, US Coast Guard MH-Dolphin Helicopter, the AeroShells, Team Oracle, of course the Thunderbirds, as well as many others. It was great to have the 200-500mm and 70-200mm lenses with us for the show and they ended up being the perfect duo for this show allowing us to get some great shots. We've picked out some of our favorites from the airshow below and post some on our prints site, we hope you like them, and we look forward to going to the show again next year to watch the Blue Angels perform! This work by JD Maloney is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.
