Snowpocalypse- Chambana Style

On Wednesday University of Illinois had its first snow day in 4 years, and only its fourth in the last 30.  Hype definitely helped as the National Weather Service predicted as much as 18-24 inches.  Those predictions declined as the storm approached, as we finished with roughly 12-14 inches of total precipitation.  Campus sounded like a construction zone Wednesday as front-end loaders, bobcats, tractors, and pretty much every piece of heavy machinery you can think of scurried around campus clearing snow and scraping up ice.  The noises did not cease when the sun sank below the horizon.  I watched tractors make multiple passes on a sidewalk and parking lot outside my window after 2AM.  These removal efforts did not at all dampen the spirits as students enjoyed a free day, to break the week in half.  I only made time for a one hour walk around campus Wednesday morning, so I was not able to make it to all parts of campus, but here are some photos of the things I saw on my trip through the Chambana tundra.[slideshow]Photos Copyright: JD Maloney
